IWGP Intercontinental Title

New Japan’s first ever tour of the United States in mid-2011 saw the creation of the IWGP Intercontinental Title, a secondary singles title with an international theme to it. Fittingly, one of New Japan’s foreign stars at the time, MVP, won the tournament to crown the first champion. Below is a complete list of champions and defenses.

1. (5/15/11 @ Philadelphia Asylum Arena, USA) MVP beat Toru Yano (9:27) with the TTB (tournament final).
- (6/18/11 @ Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium) MVP beat Toru Yano (10:50) with a leg roll clutch hold (1st defense).
- (7/18/11 @ Makomanai Sekisui Heim Ice Arena) MVP beat Toru Yano (12:03) with the TTB (2nd defense).

2. (10/10/11 @ Tokyo Ryogoku Kokugikan) Masato Tanaka beat MVP (12:30) with the Sliding D.
- (11/12/11 @ Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium) Masato Tanaka beat Hirooki Goto (9:51) with the Sliding D (1st defense).
- (12/4/11 @ Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium) Masato Tanaka beat MVP (10:09) with the Sliding D (2nd defense).
- (12/23/11 @ Tokyo Korakuen Hall) Masato Tanaka beat Tomoaki Honma (22:40) with the Sliding D (3rd defense).
