1. Captain New Japan & KUSHIDA beat Jado & Gedo (7:22) when KUSHIDA used a Buzzsaw kick on Gedo.
2. Wataru Inoue, Jushin Thunder Liger & Tiger Mask beat Ryusuke Taguchi, BUSHI & Tama Tonga (9:09) when Inoue used a German suplex hold on BUSHI.
3. Karl Anderson, MVP, Shelton Benjamin & Rush beat Minoru Suzuki, Lance Archer, TAKA Michinoku
& Taichi (10:15) when Benjamin used the Paydirt on Taichi.
4. Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Satoshi Kojima & Yuji Nagata beat Toru Yano, Takashi Iizuka & Tomohiro Ishii (10:09) when Nagata used a backdrop hold on Ishii.
5. Hiroshi Tanahashi, Togi Makabe, Hirooki Goto & Tetsuya Naito beat Shinsuke Nakamura, Kazuchika Okada, Yujiro Takahashi & YOSHI-HASHI (17:12) when Naito used a Stardust press on YOSHI-HASHI.
6. Double Main Event I – IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title: Kota Ibushi
beat Low Ki (c) (19:30) with a Phoenix splash to become the 30th champion.
7. Double Main Event II – NWA World Historic Middleweight Title: Prince Devitt (c) beat Volador Jr. (13:05) with an avalanche-style Bloody Sunday (2nd defense).
* The final show before this year’s G1 Climax was the junior-centric “LAST REBELLION” and was a complete sell out at a packed Korakuen Hall.
* NWA World Historic Middleweight Champion, Prince Devitt, is unfamiliar with the idea of not holding a title these days so having lost the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title back in May had to make sure he overcame the tough challenge of CMLL star Volador Jr. in part two of the double main event. This was a good match with many exciting high-flying moves although the fans were a little burned out from what came before it, but New Japan wanted one of its own stars in the final match of the card. And Devitt came out on top, sinking Volador with an avalanche-style Bloody Sunday to complete a successful V2 defense.
* The most anticipated match of the show was the first of the two main events and saw dominant IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion, Low Ki, take on DDT star and former champion Kota Ibushi in something of a modern day junior dream match. This was Ibushi’s first singles match in New Japan since defeating Taguchi in a title defense in his last reign just under a year ago, after which he was forced to vacate the title with a badly dislocated shoulder. Having not long returned Ibushi has quickly returned to New Japan and put on a wildly exciting match with Ki today in what was Ki’s V2 defense of the title. And Ibushi picked up where he left off in New Japan, sinking Ki with a Phoenix splash to capture the title for the second time. KUSHIDA, who upset Ki in a non-title match a week ago, appeared afterwards to issue a challenge to Ibushi which could set up another match with great potential. Hopefully Ki’s quick back-to-back losses don’t mean he is on his way out so soon as he has boosted the junior division a lot since his New Japan return.

3. IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Title: Rocky Romero & Alex Koslov beat Jushin Thunder Liger & Tiger Mask (c) (13:44) when Romero used the Contract Killer on Tiger to become the 33rd champions.
4. Special Elimination Match: Minoru Suzuki, Lance Archer, TAKA Michinoku
& Taichi beat Togi Makabe, Yuji Nagata, Prince Devitt & Ryusuke Taguchi (16:46). Makabe threw Taichi over the top rope (9:23). Makabe used a King Kong kneedrop on TAKA (9:39). Archer threw Makabe over the top rope (10:41). Suzuki threw Nagata over the top rope (14:15). Archer threw Devitt over the top rope (15:41). Archer used the Blackout on Taguchi (16:46).
5. IWGP Tag Team Title: Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Satoshi Kojima beat Toru Yano & Takashi Iizuka (13:43) when Kojima used a lariat on Iizuka to become the 60th champions (decision match).
6. Special Tag Match: Tetsuya Naito & Karl Anderson beat Kazuchika Okada & Yujiro Takahashi (15:30) when Naito used a Stardust press on Takahashi.
7. IWGP Intercontinental Title: Shinsuke Nakamura beat Hirooki Goto (c) (16:50) with the Boma Ye to become the 4th champion.
8. IWGP Heavyweight Title: Hiroshi Tanahashi (c) beat Masato Tanaka
(26:15) with the High Fly Flow (2nd defense).

* In front of a yet another sold out crowd for New Japan, Hiroshi Tanahashi overcame the fierce challenge of CHAOS’ Masato Tanaka in an exciting match to complete his V2 defense, ensuring that he goes into this year’s G1 Climax as champion just like last year. It took close to half an hour for Tanaka’s bold challenge to be put to an end but once again the New Japan ace proved his ability when he hit the High Fly Flow for the win. Tanahashi has now won fifteen IWGP Heavyweight Title matches over two reigns in the last one and a half years.
* The IWGP Intercontinental Title scene was shaken up as in the biggest match in the title’s short history, Shinsuke Nakamura dethroned generation rival Hirooki Goto to become the 4th champion. Although considered a secondary title, this belt now certainly holds more prestige and worth than it did before and Nakamura adds another trophy to his well decorated cabinet. This is Nakamura’s first singles title for two years and two months.
* The seemingly endless TenKoji vs. Yano & Iizuka feud seemed to find some sort of resolution today as with four referees to avoid yet another non-finish, Tenzan & Kojima defeated the dastardly CHAOS duo in a decision match for the vacant IWGP Tag Team Title. The title was held up last month after a no contest while Yano & Iizuka were champions and New Japan officials deemed them unfit to reign as champions after that, demanding they earn the belts again in a fresh collision with TenKoji. But with four referees ensuring Yano & Iizuka could only bend the rules so much, the now 4-time IWGP Tag Team Champions came out victorious as Kojima sunk Iizuka with a lariat. It’s 13 1/2 years since the popular TenKoji duo first won these belts when they defeated Genichiro Tenryu & Shiro Koshinaka on 1/4/99 at the Tokyo Dome but they are stronger than ever in their latest reunion. Lance Archer appeared after the match to challenge TenKoji but didn’t say who his partner would be (Suzuki?).
* The IWGP Jr. Tag Team Title is back in CHAOS custody for the first time since Davey Richards & Rocky Romero were forced to vacate the belts in May after Richards couldn’t make a title match and his New Japan stay subsequently ended. Romero has since found a new tag partner in the impressive Alex Koslov and today they scored a huge win over Liger & Tiger Mask, who only won the belts themselves last month. Tiger Mask fell to the Contract Killer, meaning the last three champions have failed to even register one successful defense… a trend the new champions will be hoping to put an end to.
* In a huge upset on the undercard, KUSHIDA surprised the dominant Low Ki with a cradle to defeat the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion in a non-title match. This isn’t what Ki wanted ahead of his upcoming title defense against Kota Ibushi and for KUSHIDA, he will be watching that and could be the first to challenge the winner after today’s result.

7. Special 6 Man Tag Match: Hiroshi Tanahashi, Hirooki Goto & Akebono beat Shinsuke Nakamura, Masato Tanaka
& Tomohiro Ishii (16:37) when Tanahashi used the High Fly Flow on Ishii.
* The planned Kojima vs. Iizuka and Tenzan vs. Yano singles matches were scrapped after yesterday’s DQs in both Tenzan vs. Iizuka and Kojima vs. Yano, and a preview of Sunday’s IWGP Tag Team Title decision match was set with TenKoji against Iizuka & Yano. And surprisingly, even without the four referees the title match will have, this had some sort of conclusive finish with Iizuka forcing a referee stop victory over Kojima!

The juniors will take center stage at Korakuen Hall on July 29th as New Japan hosts “LAST REBELLION”, the final show before the 2012 G1 Climax begins. As we all knew, Low Ki makes his V2 defense of the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title against DDT’s Kota Ibushi, but this will be only one half of the double main event. Announced today was Prince Devitt’s V2 defense of the NWA World Historic Middleweight Title following his successful first defense over Taichi yesterday. And a formidable challenge is being thrown his way in the form of Volador Jr. who headlined the second New Japan/CMLL “FANTASTICA MANIA 2012″ show in January.
New Japan also announced today that the Tenzan & Kojima vs. Yano & Iizuka decision match for the IWGP Tag Team Title on 7/22 will have four referees – one in the ring (Tiger Hattori) and three around it (Red Shoes Unno, Marty Asami, and Kenta Sato). Not only that, there will be no countouts to ensure that this feud, littered with DQs, countouts, and no contests, will have a full conclusion.

TenKoji today suffered a defeat heading into their IWGP Tag Title match as they competed on Shinjiro Otani’s 20th anniversary show and were beaten by Emblem – Otani & Masato Tanaka. Otani has a close bond with Tenzan and Kojima as all three were part of New Japan’s third generation who graduated from the dojo in the early 1990s. Otani debuted against Tenzan (then using his real name Hiroyoshi Yamamoto) on June 25th, 1992. And of course Masato Tanaka is almost a full-timer nowadays in New Japan and is challenging Tanahashi for the IWGP Heavyweight Title on 7/22, and it was he who settled the match by pinning Kojima.

Participants and lineups for the 2012 G1 Climax were announced today. NOAH star Naomichi Marufuji who was supposed to enter the 2010 G1 but pulled out because of an injury and was replaced by Devitt is in the tournament, and is joined by fellow G1 debutants Shelton Benjamin and highly rated CMLL star Rush. The rest are New Japan regulars who make up a typically strong cast. The blocks are below and perhaps the most notable thing is that CHAOS’ top two, Okada and Nakamura, are in the jaw-dropping Block B meaning they will face each other! Having seen every G1 Climax I believe if this one reaches its full potential it could be among the best in history.

Yuji Nagata will go to war with nemesis Masakatsu Funaki on All Japan’s 7/29 Korakuen Hall show. These two have been feuding for a long time now after Nagata injured Funaki’s face on January’s Tokyo Dome show, putting him out of action for months. Funaki’s henchman Kono then went after Nagata but was dominated by the New Japan veteran, but with Funaki back the feud everyone wanted to see is well in motion. Nagata said if he can defeat the legendary co-founder of Pancrase he will go after the Triple Crown, currently held by his sworn friend, NOAH’s Jun Akiyama, with whom he had a prolific rivalry in the 2000s.
