* “Mr. Anti-Aging” Yuji Nagata celebrated his 44th birthday before the show, receiving a birthday cake from young lions Hiromu Takahashi and Takaaki Watanabe. Watanabe started acting suspiciously so Nagata splatted the cake in his face! Nagata is called “Mr. Anti-Aging” as no matter how old he gets, he doesn’t seem to look older and remains as athletic as ever in the ring.

IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion and New Japan junior ace Prince Devitt challenges Volador Jr. for the NWA World Historic Middleweight Title at the famous Arena Mexico in a fantastic match.
New Japan today announced participants for “NJPW 40TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR ~ BEST OF THE SUPER JR. XIX ~THE DOOR TO THE GLORY~“, Japanese wrestling’s most famous junior tournament. The big news first is the announcement that All Japan masked man BUSHI has moved to New Japan on a one year loan deal as of May 1st, which is a new initiative by New Japan that will help train and improve other wrestlers, similar to when they go overseas. This is much like they do in football/soccer with young players and could well take off in Japan now as a way of diversifying rosters and giving young men more experiences.
PAC of DRAGON GATE UK is another BOSJ debutant, while “Russian Hooligan” Alex Koslov, who recently left his WWE developmental deal and is well known for his work in Mexico, is also in. Young CMLL talent Angel de Oro makes his New Japan debut in the tournament and will hope to make an impression. Last year’s “ROAD TO THE SUPER JR. 2DAYS TOURNAMENT” winner on the NEVER brand, Daisuke Sasaki, has also been invited back for a second time. Here is the full list, blocks will be announced in the near future…
- Prince Devitt (IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion & NWA World Historic Middleweight Champion)
- Ryusuke Taguchi
- Jushin Thunder Liger
- Tiger Mask
- KUSHIDA
- BUSHI (AJPW -> NJPW)

* Look out Tiger Mask! The latest version of Black Tiger stormed to victory in the second ROAD TO THE SUPER JR. 2DAYS TOURNAMENT, earning himself a place in this year’s Super Jr. tournament. He defeated Madoka who has been unlucky enough to lose two finals in two years and miss out on the Super Jr. tournament twice. Black Tiger appears to have aligned himself with Suzuki Gun as he was photographed with TAKA and Taichi in a Suzuki Gun t-shirt. He spoke in Japanese and is apparently a personal friend of Suzuki.

New Japan and All Japan today announced that they will hold a joint 40th anniversary show at Sumo Hall on July 1st titled “WE ARE PRO-WRESTLING LOVE”. The presidents of both companies spoke of it today although with it still being quite far off could reveal little besides the concept of sharing their celebrations of 40 years in business. Despite being co-hosts, they did not rule out the possibility of promotion vs. promotion matches so it could be a little more intriguing in that sense than the “ALL TOGETHER” charity shows which were general a set of interpromotional tag matches.

Fukuoka International Center
- IWGP Tag Team Title: Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Satoshi Kojima (c) vs. Toru Yano & Takashi Iizuka
New Japan has revealed the full card for the major 5/3 show at Fukuoka International Center today, which includes four title matches and three special matches. As confirmed on the heels of his New Japan Cup win yesterday, Hirooki Goto will be Kazuchika Okada’s next challenger for the IWGP Heavyweight Title in the main event. Also confirmed was the much expected TenKoji defense of the IWGP Tag Team Title against CHAOS’ Toru Yano & Takashi Iizuka, who defeated Tenzan & Kojima in a non-title match not long ago. The No Remorse Corps, Davey Richards & Rocky Romero, make their V1 defense of the IWGP Jr. Tag Team Title against the masked super hero team of Jushin Thunder Liger & Tiger Mask, the first time this title has not been NRC vs. Apollo 55 this year. He’s back! “One World Warrior” Low Ki returns to New Japan for his latest stint and instantly challenges Prince Devitt for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title in a rematch from last year in America when Devitt won during New Japan’s tour of the east coast. Of the special matches announced, the standout is a rematch from the New Japan Cup where Shinsuke Nakamura and Karl Anderson blew the roof off Korakuen Hall with an incredible match that the “Machine Gun” won. Shinsuke will look to avoid a similar upset.
Tour matches before and after the Fukuoka show were also announced.

8. New Japan Cup – Round 2: Hiroshi Tanahashi beat Tetsuya Naito (18:21) with a small package hold.
* An exciting semi final round of the New Japan Cup was set up at a sold out Korakuen Hall today with a couple of huge upsets. New Japan ace Hiroshi Tanahashi stalled Naito’s runaway momentum by showing he is still the man to beat despite his recent title loss to Okada, pinning Naito with a small package hold. This set up a match with… Karl Anderson! Yes, the “Machine Gun” prevented the latest clash of eternal rivals with Nakamura by beating the CHAOS leader in a huge upset. He dropped Shinsuke with the Gun Stun and continues to impress as he looks to make a name for himself as a singles wrestler in the post-Bad Intentions era.
* The second semi final will see two fan favourites go up against each other. Hirooki Goto unsurprisingly put away CMLL star La Sombra with his Shouten Kai, while Makabe scored a big win over Minoru Suzuki meaning he has now taken out Suzuki Gun’s “big three” of Suzuki, Takayama, and Archer in singles matches this year. So Goto vs. Makabe will collide back at Korakuen in a few days for a place in the final against either Tanahashi or Anderson.

For the second year running, New Japan’s NEVER brand will host a small tournament that gives a young junior the chance to qualify for the Best of the Super Jr. tournament. Last year 16 men competed for two spots but this year 8 men compete for 1 spot, with New Japan young lions Takaaki Watanabe and Hiromu Takahashi being joined by various other young juniors in the two night tournament. The most intriguing entrant is “Black Tiger”, who will be under the mask this time?

Former IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion, Low Ki, is on his way back to New Japan! The 55th generation champion made a brief return last May on the USA tour when he challenged Devitt for the belt in New York, and the loss there has been gnawing at Ki, who has his eyes fixed on Devitt and the prestigious IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title.

* Some interesting results today at a packed Amagasaki Memorial Park Gymnasium set up a couple of huge second round matches. Naito scored yet another career boosting win over Kojima, meaning he will face a man he is known to have great matches with, Tanahashi, who defeated long-time enemy Yano. Minoru Suzuki bested his rival Nagata to set up a second round confrontation with Makabe that has been in the making for a while. CHAOS leader Nakamura is trying to ensure he doesn’t slip into Okada’s shadow too much and his win over the returning MVP means he will meet Karl Anderson in the second round. Anderson’s post-Bad Intentions career (now that gaijin mainstay Giant Bernard has been confirmed as the WWE’s latest superstar Lord Tensai) is showing promising signs as he beat Tenzan to secure passage to the next round. The final second round match will put La Sombra against IWGP Intercontinental Champion, Hirooki Goto.
