OK, this is a guide covering just about everything in terms of ripping, uploading, posting, converting & downloading of media. I don’t mean to render Tackangel’s advice thread useless, but, well, I am. I’m doing this to help the people who genuinely want to contribute to the boards but are unsure how to post media, as well as to eliminate the all to frequent excuse of “I don’t know how’ utilized by the leechers of the boards. OK, onto the guide…
BUYING DVD’S/VIDEOS
A variety of places around the internet sell DVD/VHS copies of puro shows. www.ivpvideos.com is supposedly very good. I’ve never had a problem with www.highspots.com (I’ve ordered countless tapes, DVD’s, a mask as well as a variety of other goodies) and I hear www.goldenboytapes.com are also good. Private traders such as Dan Ginnetty and Jeff Lynch are also highly reputable and have massive libraries. It’s a safe bet that this guide will be amended, so if anyone has any other recommendations, please feel free to PM me about them.
RIPPING
Now, to begin ripping a DVD, the following things are needed:
1.) A decent (speed-wise) computer, with a DVD burner (My computer also has a DVD drive, which works just as well, but they are usually a little slower than the burners)
2.) The DVD that you intent on ripping.
3.) DVD Decrypter
4.) SUPER Video converter
5.) Enough space on your computer’s HDD to accommodate the entire size of the DVD. Often, this can be a number of GB, so be aware of how much space you have. External HDD’s can be good for this type of thing.
6.) Windows Movie Maker (Which comes standard), Sony Video Vegas, or any other video editing program. I find that WMM works the best, as with the latest version, you can choose the file size which you can then suit to your internet speed.
7.) The internet. A broadband connection would be best, but people do somehow survive on dial-up these days
Alright, now we’re ready to begin the ripping process
1.) Organize computer, get DVD ready. This is like cooking; never start until you have all the ingredients prepared and ready to go.
2.) Place DVD in the DVD drive, and wait for the auto play feature to kick in. Choose ‘Take no action’
3.) Open DVD Decrypter
4.) Choose the DVD which you wish to rip. It should be under D or E drive.
5.) Use the edit menu and select 'Select .VOB Files'
6.) After clicking next, click ‘Start’, and you’ll be ready to get going.
CONVERTING
Now that all of your files are in .VOB format and probably taking up a significant amount of space on your HDD, you can convert them into another format.
1.) Open SUPER and import the files. I usually have my settings as the following:
File Output: avi
Video Codec: DivX
Audio Codec: mp3
Video Scale Size: No change
Aspect: 16:9
Frame/sec: 60
Bitrate: 1248
Sampling Freq: 48000
Channels: 2
Bitrate: 320kbps
DVD Language: Default
2.) Highlight all of the .vob files you wish to convert, and drag/drop them into the little zone at the bottom and click 'Encode'. Select DivX and you're off. As for where the file saves, pressing 'Ctrl+T' will bring up the choice of folders. Choose wherever you want, it makes no difference. This will take some time depending on the computer you're using.
Now that's done, it's time to use Windows Movie Maker.
3.) Open Windows Movie Maker, and import the first file in the list. On A DVD, this will usually be the anti-piracy, intro stuff at the start. Usually it just gets deleted (Unless you want it)
4.) Drag and drop the frames you want to the bottom section of the screen, one by one (Or you can highlight them all by clicking on one and pressing Ctrl+A then Ctrl+M) which will combine everything into 1 frame. Usually wrestling DVDs have a little black section in between matches, so look for that when breaking up individual matches.
5.) OK, here is the good part. If you have the latest version (It should come with Windows Media Player 10) then you can actually pick the file size. I usually have it somewhere around the 1MBps rate, but some will like it higher. Your choice
6.) Repeat steps 3-5 for each video file, deleting the ripped .AVI file before as you go to free up some space on your HDD.
UPLOADING
There are a number of good hosts to put media on, and here I’ll outline some of the pro’s and cons of the more popular ones
http://rapidshare.de – It has good download speeds, unlimited bandwidth and a file will only be deleted after 30 days of non-activity. Problem is that it has a limit on how much you can download in an hour, and it will monitor you IP address.
www.yousendit.com – Another good host with good speeds. Files last only 7 days, and have a 1GB bandwidth limit allotted to them.
www.megaupload.com – No real file size limit (Maybe 1024mb at last check?), and it has the same deal as Rapid Share in terms of file length and bandwidth. I USE THIS ALL OF THE TIME!!!
www.filefactory.com – 500MB file size, same as Rapid Share and Mega Upload (Bandwidth and hosting time). Download speeds are good, though it can be rather unreliable when uploading.
www.turboupload.com – 70MB file size limit, which is about the only real con. Similar to Rapid Share, Mega Upload & File Factory.
YOUTUBE
I know that a lot of people will look for stuff on Youtube, and for those wondering, yes, it can be downloaded! www.keepvid.com is about to become your best friend! Input the video file address that you want into the little box, and away you go! It will save as a .flv (Flash Video) file, but never fear, SUPER will convert it for you in the same way it does your DVD files!
